ElectroForms: Mobile Data Capture

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

electroforms

ElectroForms is software for mobile devices that allows users to create Excel documents using an extremely easy-to-use data capture interface.

Users enter data using forms, which are customised exactly to your requirements. This is then converted to an Excel document instantly when it is e-mailed from the device.

It is ideal for small businesses as it does not require any IT administration or maintenance, and no databases or file servers are required.

Doesn’t that sound great? Being out on the road working, logging various pieces of data about your job. Coming back to your office and the previously inputted data is waiting for you in a nice structured spreadsheet for you to work on. No fiddling. No lugging a Laptop about. No re-logging notes that you took when you were on the road.

Not just that. Imagine you were a company with several workmen out completing various jobs around your catchment area. Your central office will get the real-time situation with all jobs in a easy to understand/organise format.

The good folks at Electroforms have done a great job developing such software.

Good luck guys!

Sorry I’ve been away from it for a while. Been busy with work yadda, yadda.

Anyway. I wanted to let you see this amazing video that Derren Brown tweeted about today. Gives you an idea of the tiny little speck that we are in the grand scheme of things:

Wow!

Google Buildings

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

It’s my day off today and I’ve been messing about on the net. Came across this link about Google Building Maker. Its basically a community set aside to turn Google Earth into a 3D environment. Totally ingenious. I thought I’d give it a go and create a building. Here is the result:

Looks like a school or sorts in Dublin. I just made google pick the building for me. Can’t wait for Glasgow to be available for modelling. I’ll be right in about it!

Here is a wee guide:

Web 2.0

Monday, October 12th, 2009

A lot of people don’t really like the coined phrase Web 2.0, but I do. I think it’s necessary. The Web has become a different place in the last few years. This video shows us what Web 2.0 is. In a totally awesome way.

Thanks to Adrian Restantia for the heads up on this.

A Glimpse into the Future

future

Want to show you a few things that I’ve seen lately that excite me. These are a little glimpse into the near future. Some of the stuff that is being designed just now is so intuitive, and user friendly that it looks like there is going to be an exponential increase in general productivity for many years to come.

First up is Microsoft’s Gizmodo. There is not too much details about this yet but below is a recent ‘leaked’ video of how it will work.

Second up, and something I’m really excited about, is Google’s new ‘Wave’ platform. This is being pitched as ‘the new email’ and certainly looks that part. And what’s even more bizarre it will be open source when released.

Lastly. A new system from a company called Savant. This is more about home entertainment and about having total control of your household appliances. I love it!!!!!!!!

I want it all now!!!
